Jurong Lake Gardens

50 Yuan Ching Road, Singapore,

Description

The Jurong Lake Gardens is a 90ha complex comprising of the Lakeside Garden, the Chinese Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Garden Promenade. It is located in Jurong East in Singapore. The Chinese Garden is based on northern Chinese imperial style of architecture and landscaping; its main highlights include several multi-arch bridges, a 7-storey pagoda and the twin pagodas. The Japanese Garden is built on an island accessible by bridges and seeks to inspire calmness and inner peace using traditional features such as Toro stone lanterns, a rest house, ponds and gravels. Note that the Chinese and Japanese Gardens are still undergoing redevelopment and their re-opening date has not yet been announced.

Access & Transport

The gardens are best reached with the EW MRT line, alighting at either Chinese Garden station or Lakeside station. Bus services 49 and 154 from Jurong East or Boon Lay Interchanges are also practical. For those driving there, the North and South carpark are accessible from Yuan Ching Road.

Instructions & Recommendations

The best time to explore the garden is early morning and late afternoon - to avoid the heat of the day. We recommend bringing some water with you. Logistically, this activity is best combined with the Science Centre or Snow City (walking distance).

Meta review

Few recent reviews as a large area is still closed for redevelopment but the Lakeside Garden area gets positive feedback as a green and quiet place well suited for walks and kids' outdoor activities. The main negative comments are from visitors who did not realize that the Chinese and Japanese Gardens are temporarily closed.

Environmental & Social

A very green activity that enhances the local community's living environment

Conclusion

In its current state, the Jurong Lake Gardens isn't really worth travelling across town, but it is definitely a great outdoor option for residents of the area. The Chinese and Japanese Gardens were truly enjoyable before their redevelopment, so it is very likely that their enhanced version will position them as a worthwhile attraction
