Description
Orchard Road is Singapore's most famous shopping area. The road is technically 2.5km long but "Orchard" refers to the section between the Orchard Hotel (the end of Tanglin rd) up to Somerset / Concord Hotel and the beginning of Scotts road (until the Goodwood Park Hotel). There are several department stores and F&B venues (coffee shops, restaurants, food courts and bars).
Access & Transport
Orchard (NS and TE lines) and Somerset MRT stations (NS line) are located along Orchard rd. There are also plenty of bus services coming in from Scotts rd, Stevens rd, Holland rd, Paterson rd or the City Hall area.
Instructions & Recommendations
If you intend to shop, most stores open between 10h and 11h and stay open until 20h / 22h - including Sundays.
Environmental & Social
No Environmental data for the area but there is a lot of asphalts, concrete, glass, metal and electricity consumption involved. Socially slightly negative because of the heavy focus on commercial activities driven by big brands / chains and advertising.
Conclusion
Orchard might indeed be the best place for shopping but, if that is of little interest to you, this is an area you can skip without regrets as there is little to see
Key positive
Countless shopping centers
Central and easy to get to by public transport
Key negative
No "sights"
Shopping prices not really competitive and mostly big chains
Crowded every day
Suitability
No restrictions
