Description
The Singapore Flyer is a giant ferris wheel located in the Marina area of Singapore. It is 165m tall (it was the world's tallest until 2018), comprises 28 capsules with capacity of 28 passengers each and takes 30-32mins to complete one revolution. The ticket also includes the Time Capsule, which is described as "an immersive experience of Singapore’s past, present and future". Trivia: the wheel initially rotated counter-clockwise but this was changed in 2008 following advice from Feng shui masters.
Access & Transport
The Promenade (Downtown and Circle lines) MRT station are 700m away and there is a bus stop ("Aft. S'pore Flyer") next to the attraction on Raffles Avenue with many services. Alternatively, City Hall MRT station (NS and EW lines) is 1.5km away. There is a dedicated paying multi-storey carpark.
Instructions & Recommendations
This attraction can be combined with attractions across the river (ArtScience Museum, Gardens by the Bay) or a walk along the river to Esplanade and maybe a visit of the National Gallery
Environmental & Social
The attraction requires a meaningful amount of electricity to run (including the A/C and ventilation). Socially neutral
Conclusion
The Singapore Flyer is a popular attraction both for tourists and residents. At night, it really enhances the city's skyline and also provides a great vantage point to customers - although, in our opinion, there are equally good viewpoints at much lower prices. Nice to do but not unmissable.
Key positive
Some of the best views over Singapore skyline
Key negative
A little pricey
Suitability
Suitable for all ages. Each capsule can accommodate up to 5 wheelchairs (there are ramps, lifts and handicapped toilets as well)
