Singapore River Cruise - by Tsungjung Lee on Google
Description
Singapore River Cruise operates 40mins bumboat trips on the Singapore River from Clarke Quay to the Promenade jetty (next to the Singapore Flyer) and back, providing views of Boat Quay, the Connaught Bridge, the Esplanade, the Merlion, Marina Bay Sands and the Singapore Flyer. The wooden boats are sea-going barges called "tongkang" and were used until the 1980's to transport goods along the Rochor, Kallang and Singapore rivers.
Access & Transport
Main departure point is at the Clarke Quay Jetty. It is a short 5mins walk to Clarke Quay MRT (NE line) and there are many bus services stopping along River Valey rd and New Bridge Rd / Eu Tong Sen St. The Bayfront South jetty also operates from 10h00 to 18h00
Instructions & Recommendations
Please note that the activity is operational in all weather conditions. We suggest combining the river cruise with a meal / drink in Clarke Quay or Boat Quay. The Asian Civilizations Museum and Chinatown are both a short walk away as well.
Environmental & Social
Boats run on fossil fuels. Neutral from a social perspective
Conclusion
A trip on the Singapore River feels like a very touristy thing to do and value is debatable, but it is both enjoyable and an opportunity to learn more about the history of the boats and the Singapore River. We would recommend an evening / night cruise to get fantastic views of the illuminated skyline (Raffles Place and Marina / MBS areas).
Key positive
Great views and fun ride
Key negative
Not an eco-friendly activity
Expensive for such a short trip
Suitability
Suitable for all ages. The boats are not accessible for wheelchair users and visitors with reduced mobility would need help from staff to board.
