Badavut Beach

Hamit Ağa Caddesi, Küçükköy, Balıkesir

Description

Badavut Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Turkey's Balikesir Province. It has golden sand and a village with several hotels, beach clubs and restaurants right behind it. The beach faces the Greek island of Lesbos, about 15km offshore.

Access & Transport

The beach is 10km southwest from the town of Ayvalık, 150km north of Izmir and 140km west of Balikesir.

Instructions & Recommendations

It's the beach and the sun can be strong so don't forget the usual protective equipment (hat/cap, "green" sunblock, sunglasses, slippers) and some water.

Meta review

Online reviews heavily depend on the time of the year when the beach was visited: in the peak season and on weekends it is very crowded and over-commercialised (dirty according to some as well) whilst until June and from September onward it is a much more enjoyable place for swimming or lounging by the sea.

Environmental & Social

Theoretically, a green activity with a low carbon footprint but pollution (rubbish/plastic, wastewater) is an issue. The impact on community is the usual two-edge sword: the revenues brought by visitors help the village remain dynamic but lead to over-commercialization and mercantile behaviours

Conclusion

Badavut Beach is a good option for sunseekers in the area but suffers from over-crowding in the summer. A worthy stop if you are in the region and outside of the summer peak season but otherwise there are much better alternatives elsewhere.
