Gröna Lund

9 Lilla Allmänna Gränd, Östermalm, Stockholms län

Description

Gröna Lund is a seasonal outdoor amusement park in Stockholm with about 30 rides ranging from adrenaline-inducing rollercoasters and a drop tower to family-friendly attractions. The park also regularly stages concerts.

Access & Transport

The park is in the west of Djurgården, an island with many of Stockholm key attractions located about 2km east of the city centre that is easily accessible by public transport or a short walk across the bridge (Djurgårdsbron). The bus (67) and tram (7) stop ' Liljevalchs/Gröna Lund' is right next to the attraction and the ferry is also an option (#82 from Slussen / #80 from Nybroplan to Allmänna gränd). Instructions & Recommendations

*** The park generally reopens around end April until end Septembre and then a few days around Halloween. In May and Septembre, the park is not open every day so make sure to check the calendar on the website for updated info *** Unusually, customers are permitted to bring their own F&B (there are suitable picnic spots). It is not possible to buy separate concert tickets; you must purchase a Ticket to Ride and pass through the gates to be guaranteed entry to the concert (standing only).

Meta review

The amusement park is a regular feature of travel magazines and blogs covering Stockholm but the online reviews are somewhat mixed, or rather average: they state there is a good range of rides to satisfy all ages but none of them are genuinely world-class and everything can be pretty much covered in half a day, which makes the admission fees overpriced.

Environmental & Social

Amusement parks are energy intensive but in this instance a 20MW solar power facility is being built by the operator (Parks and Resorts) so that (indirectly) Gröna Lund will be powered by self-produced green energy.

Conclusion

Not very large, not the latest and greatest rides, but is has charm and is situated incredibly close to the centre of Stockholm with several other worthwhile attractions a short walk away. If your budget allows, this is a good way to split a great day in Stockholm between a cultural activity and some thrills (and potentially a concert).
