Shibuya Crossing - by Koreval

Description
Shibuya is one of Tokyo's major commercial and finance centres, alongside Marunouchi/Ginza and Shinjuku (technically part of Shibuya ward). The area around Shibuya station is known as one of the city's go-to places for shopping, fashion, and nightlife. Its most famous "feature" is the scramble Shibuya Crossing that sees up to 3,000 people cross the intersection at a time and the Hachiko Memorial is a popular meeting point. Centre Gai is popular in the evenings with its restaurants, pachinko parlours and karaoke bars. Trivia: the statue of Hachiko commemorates the faithful dog that waited for his owner every evening next to the Shibuya station for nearly ten years until his death (the owner had passed away while at work, unbeknown to him).
Access & Transport
The neighbourhood radiates around Shibuya station, in the western part of Tokyo, about 4km south of Shinjuku. Shibuya station has three metro lines (Z, F, G) and many train lines stop there, including the Narita express
Instructions & Recommendations
The area might be best experienced in the evening. It can easily be combined with Yoyogi Park, the Meiji Shrine, and Harajuku or Omotesando.
Environmental & Social
Urban and commercial environment with intense electricity consumption + heavy focus on commercial activities driven by chains and advertising.
Conclusion
Shibuya is very popular with foreign and domestic shoppers although the prices there are not that competitive due to the high rents in the area. For non-shoppers, it is just plain crowded and we would not recommend spending much time there except perhaps for the night life.
Key positive
Good shopping and F&B opportunities
Key negative
Really crowded
No major sights
Suitability
No restrictions but children won't find much of interest there
