Tokyo Tower - by Management
Description
The Tokyo Tower is a radio and TV broadcasting tower reaching 333m with 2 observation decks at 150m (the 2-story Main Deck) and 250m (the Top Deck). It is Japan's 2nd tallest structure after the Sky Tree (also in Tokyo). The lattice design is strongly influenced by the Eiffel Tower but, unlike Paris' monument, it is white and orange coloured (to comply with air safety regulation).
Access & Transport
The tower is in the Shiba neighbourhood of Minato, next to Shiba Park. The Akabanebashi metro station (E) is only 5mins' walk away and the Shibakoen (I), Kamiyachō (H) and Onarimon (I) stations are each about 10mins away. Directions: https://www.tokyotower.co.jp/en/access/
Instructions & Recommendations
The Top Deck tickets are priced significantly higher and include access to both the Main Deck and the Top Deck. We suggest combining this activity with nearby Zojo-ji.
Environmental & Social
No environmental data. The primary purpose of the building is broadcasting so the carbon footprint comes mainly from the lighting and lift operations.
Conclusion
Tokyo Tower is one of the city's icon and visitors can at the same time explore the surrounding Shiba neighbourhood. The Main Deck ticket is reasonably priced so this is a good value activity in our books, but a duplication if you have been to some of the other observation decks in town.
