Description
Yoyogi Park is a landscaped park that housed the main Olympic village and the national Gymnasium (designed by Kenzo Tange for the swimming and diving events) during the Tokyo 1964 Summer Olympics. Otherwise, its main feature is a pond with a water fountain and it is a popular spot to enjoy the cherry blossom during hanami. On Sundays, the park is also used as a gathering place for Japanese rock music fans, cosplayers, and other subculture hobby groups.
Access & Transport
The park is adjacent to the Meiji Shrine complex and directly west of Harajuku / Meiji-jingumae station (Yamanote, C, F). Yoyogi-kōen / Yoyogi-Hachiman stations (Odakyu, C) are another public transport option, at the park's southwest corner.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining a walk through this park with the Meiji shrine and either the Harajuku neighbourhood or the centre of Shibuya.
Environmental & Social
Green attraction that enhances the living environment of residents.
Conclusion
An enjoyable park but without features that make it stand out among other urban parks. As such, it is more a spot for residents or just to take a break rather than an attraction that needs to be explored.
Key positive
