Puy du Fou España

CM-40, Toledo, Castilla-La Mancha

Description

Puy du Fou España is a historical theme park located less than 10km outside of Toledo, Spain. It opened in 2021 and replicates the success of its French sibling with four recreated period villages with different themes: Puebla Real is dedicated to craftsmen, El Askar Andalusi is a tented Moorish camp, La Venta de Isidro is a rural village and El Arrabal is the town's suburb. The main attraction though, is the daily shows some of which are on large scale. This review and the indicated price are for the day-ticket which includes the night show: El Sueño de Toledo.

Access & Transport

The city is a quick 35' train ride from Madrid Atocha Station By car, it is 70mins from Madrid on the A-42 or AP-41/A-40 The park has tied up with bus transfer providers from/to Toledo and Madrid. More info here: https://www.puydufou.com/espana/en/how-get-here

Instructions & Recommendations

Check the schedule for your date as the opening time changes depending on the season. It is possible to buy tickets for the night show and for the combo of day ticket + night show. We strongly recommend booking online ahead of time and, if your calendar allows, pending one night in Toledo to have the time to visit the city and several of its monuments.

Meta review

Online reviews are by and large extremely positive about the shows; visitors tend to be impressed, acknowledging the investment that has gone into producing them. There are a few drawbacks pointed out regularly though: the fact that some of them are not rain-proof and subject to cancellation based on weather, the dirt paths that can become muddy in case of rain, the lack of shade in hot and sunny weather, and the long lines between shows.

Environmental & Social

The Puy du Fou company does try to maximize the amount of waste being recycled and use energy efficient equipment. It is also involved with a handful of humanitarian projects and conservation programmes. Finally, it does help create a significant of jobs locally; although many of them are seasonal.

Conclusion

The focus here are the shows rather than the themed environment so, if you enjoy historical shows or have never seen one, this is definitely an option to consider, especially if you are planning to spend a night in or around Toledo. For residents of the Madrid region, it is also a good holiday or weekend option. There are still significant flaws with the park but it is also very new and we expect several of them to be addressed over time.
