Description
El Carmen is one of six neighbourhoods in Valencia old city (Ciutat Vella), its ancient winding streets contain buildings dating from Roman and Arabic times. It was named after the 13th century convent of Carmen Calzado (now a museum). Architectural and cultural highlights include the Quart Towers, the Portal de la Valldigna, the House-Museum of the painter José Benlliure, the Valencian Institute of Modern Art (IVAM), and the Serranos Towers.

The neighbourhood is on the northwest side of the old city. There are buses along the western edge C/ de Guillaume de Castro (28, C1) and the northern edge C. de la Blanqueria (28, 95, C1). The closest metro station is Àngel Guimerà (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 9) and Pont de Fusta tram station (4)
