Description
L'Umbracle is a sculpture and landscaped garden located within Valencia's City of Arts and Sciences. It was designed by Santiago Calatrava and consists of 55 fixed arches and 54 floating arches 18 metres in height. It is built on top of the complex's car park and includes a garden with palm trees, orange trees and other plants as well as an Art Promenade with sculptures from contemporary artists. The rooftop bar / club (l'umbracle terraza) uses the space on weekend nights during the summer.
Access & Transport
The Oceanogràfic tram station (10) is next to the complex and buses 15/95 also stop there. The City of Arts and Sciences is 4km to the southeast of the city centre. Directions: https://cac.es/en/informacion-de-interes/
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this activity with the Oceanogràfic, the Science Museum or the Queen Sofia Palace of Arts.
Environmental & Social
A smart way to 'hide' the car park structure with a little bit of environmental and artistic credentials.
Conclusion
Don't plan your visit to the CAC around it but don't miss it when you are there. Enjoyable, photogenic and a bit of contemporary art thrown into the mix - for free.
