Description

The Mercado Central is Valencia's largest public market (8,000m2). It was designed and built in Valencian Art Nouveau style in 1914-28. Its main distinctive features are its domes and the colourful interplay of iron, polychromed tiles, wood and ceramics. There are stalls selling fresh produces (vegetables, meat, fish, etc.) as well as few restaurants and souvenir shops.

The closest metro station is 'Àngel Guimerà' (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 9), 600m away.

Note the early closing time. The famous Lonja de la Seda is just across the street.

The market is billed as a 'must-see' when in Valencia by all travel guides and the majority of blogs. Online reviews are equally excellent, highlighting both the beautiful building and the variety of food on display - a visual treat. A few mentions of prices being on the high side.
