Description
The Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia (Museu de Belles Arts) houses over 2,000 works, mostly religious paintings and ornaments (e.g. altarpieces) from Spanish and Italian old masters dating from the 14-17th centuries such as El Greco or Velázquez. There are also some sections dedicated to sculpture, contemporary art, and archaeological findings The gallery is housed in the St. Pius V Palace built in the 17th–18th centuries.
Access & Transport
The museum is just out of the north-eastern part of the old city, alongside the Jardin del Turia green belt. Several bus services stop there on C. de la Trinitat and the Pont de Fusta tram station (4) is a 5mins walk away. Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this activity with the Jardin del Turia and the nearby Torres de Serranos
Environmental & Social
Some electricity consumption to run the museum. Positive from a social perspective by helping spread culture and the arts.
Conclusion
Even though entrance is free, we would only really recommend this museum to those keen on religious art as the other collections are a little thin; or to those with more than 3 days in the city.
Key positive
Good collection of altarpieces
Free entrance
Key negative
Very focused on religious art
Not many works by famous artists
Suitability
Suitable for all ages even though younger kids may get bored quickly. No access problem for visitors with mobility issues
