Museum of Ceramics and Decorative Arts

2 Carrer del Poeta Querol, València, Comunidad Valenciana

Description

The National Museum of Ceramics and Decorative Arts "González Martí" houses collections of clothing and fabrics, paintings, ceramics and porcelain (from antique pottery to 13-14th century Hispano-Moresque ware, Renaissance items from Florence and popular 19th-century Valencian tiles). The museum is located in the centre of Valencia, over the three floors of the Palace of the Marqués de Dos Aguas that was redesigned in Baroque style in the mid-18th century.

Access & Transport

The palace is located at #2 C. del Poeta Querol in the middle of the old city The 'Colón' metro station (0, 3, 5, 7, 9) is only a 5 mins walk away and there are bus stops nearby on Carrer de la Pau (C1) and at the southern end of C. del Poeta Querol (4, 6, 31). Instructions & Recommendations

We suggest combining this activity with one of the following: the Cathedral, La Lonja de la Seda or the Central Market.

Meta review

Online reviews mostly highlight the beautiful palace, beginning with the entrance doors and the very lavish furniture and decoration. The ceramics surprisingly do not seem to be the main attraction at all and possibly suffer from a 'lack of clear narrative' and 'limited English captions and no dates to bring context to artwork'.

Environmental & Social

We deem this activity neutral environmentally. It helps preserve the city's architectural and artistic heritage.

Conclusion

Not a tier-A attraction but worth discovering for those who enjoy visiting old private palaces with art collections and period furnishing.

Key positive

Gorgeous palace

Cheap entrance fee & central location

Key negative

Curation could be improved

Suitability

Accessible to visitors with reduced mobility but wheelchair users may need assistance once in a while. Probably not a very engaging visit for younger children.
