Description
The Albufera Natural Park is centred around a shallow coastal lagoon a few kms south of Valencia. It is separated from the sea by a narrow sandy coastal bar and the area is surrounded by rice paddies. The lagoon is a transit area for migratory birds and contains endangered fish species such as the farter and the samarugo. Cycling and boat trips are the most popular activities.
Access & Transport
The park is about 15km south of the center of Valencia on the CV401/CV500. Bus #24 goes to El Palmar and #25 to El Perellonet, in less than an hour and for €1.50 per person each way.
Instructions & Recommendations
Boat trips can be arranged from Gola de Pujol and in the ports in Catarroja, Silla, Sollana and El Palmar. Rides typically last around 40mins.
Environmental & Social
Eco-friendly activity and positive impact on local communities thanks to the small economic inflow derived from tourism
Conclusion
The Albufera NP makes for a convenient outdoor half-day break outside of Valencia. It is not just the lake and the sunset but also the wildlife and the small villages around that desserves a casual discovery. Head to El Saler Beach afterward to make a full day of it.
