Description
The Serrans Gate (Torres de Serranos) is one of the twelve gates that formed part of the ancient city wall of Valencia. It was built in Valencian Gothic style at the end of the 14th century and the towers were used as a prison for nobles from the late 16th to late 19th centuries. Visitors can climb to the top of the towers via stairs.
Access & Transport
The gate is at the north-eastern edge of the old city, alongside the Jardin del Turia green belt. Several bus services stop there on C. de la Blanqueria / C. de la Trinitat and the Pont de Fusta tram station (4) is a 5 mins walk across the gardens.
Instructions & Recommendations
On rainy days, the Towers will remain closed for safety reasons We suggest combining this activity with the Jardin del Turia and the nearby Museum of Fine Arts.
Environmental & Social
No environmental impact and helps preserve the architectural heritage of the city
Conclusion
The Serrans Gate is one of the city's landmarks and quite photogenic; an excellent opportunity to learn about the defensive walls and some parts of the city's history but little to see inside.
