Description
The Iglesia conventual de San Pablo is a church and former convent constructed during the 15-16th centuries and designed in Isabelline style. The highlight is the finely carved façade designed by Simón de Colonia with a central rose window, gargoyles, and flanked by two spires. The entrance portal relief depicts the Coronation of the Virgin in the presence of bishop Alonso de Burgos.
Access & Transport
The church is at the northern end of the historical centre of Valladolid, a 10mins walk from the Plaza Mayor. There is a bus stop (1) in front of the monument and several lines stop nearby on Calle Gondoma. The city is only 65mins by train from Madrid, or 200km by road.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this museum with the National Museum of Sculpture next to it.
Environmental & Social
Environmentally neutral. Part of the city's architectural heritage.
Conclusion
Difficult not to admire the beautifully carved façade, a real artwork at scale. We agree with reviewers, it is worth the walk from the city centre.
