Gallerie dell'Accademia - by Fernando Brancaccio on Google
Description
The Gallerie dell'Accademia is an art museum in Venice with a collection of mostly Italian & Venetian paintings and sculptures up to the 18th century. Until 1879 it belonged to the Fine Arts Academy and is housed in the Scuola della Carità in the sestiere of Dorsoduro, on the south bank of the Grand Canal. Some of the artists exhibited include Giovanni Bellini, Canaletto, Tintoretto, Veronese, Bosch and Titian. The most famous item in the collection is Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man, but it is rarely exhibited.
Access & Transport
Address: Campo della Carità, Dorsoduro 1050, 30123 Venice Vaporetto stop "Accademia" (1, N) is next to the museum and the Ponte dell'Accademia connecting with San Marco is also there. A barrier-free entrance is located at the right-hand side of the museum. The premises are equipped with lifts and lifting platforms between halls but due to renovation work the first floor is partly inaccessible (at the time of this review)
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this activity with the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute or, if you don't mind another art museum, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection.
Environmental & Social
Some environment impact to run the museum (mostly electricity). Helps spread culture and the arts
Conclusion
The Gallerie dell'Accademia has an extensive and high-quality collection of Renaissance and 18th century artwork, probably the best in Venice. It is reasonably priced and an excellent opportunity to discover the Dorsoduro district.
