Description
Lido di Venezia (Venice Lido) is one of the two barrier islands of the Lagoon of Venice. It is only separated from the Castello district by about 600m of water and it's about 3km to San Marco by vaporetto. The 11km-long island has a town, a village, several beaches and hosts the Venice Film Festival every year in late August/early Sept. Highlights include the village of Malamocco, the sand dunes of Alberoni natural reserve in the south and the Art Deco architecture of some of the hotels and villas. Trivia: on a cruise, the ship deck with the pool is often called the "Lido deck" because in Italy the name has become generic for public beaches with lots of swimmers
Access & Transport
Vaporettos B, N, 1, 5, 6, 8, 10, 14, 17, 18 go to the island the #11 from Chioggia From San Marco, take the 1, 5 or 14 to "Lido Santa Maria Elisabetta", the main gateway into Lido town.
Instructions & Recommendations
Land transport on the island is covered if you have a ACTV day or multi-day ticket Note that some of the beaches are free and the private ones come with facilities (sundeck, towels, changing rooms) and a hefty entrance fee.
Environmental & Social
Mostly low carbon footprint besides the crossing by vaporetto
Conclusion
The Lido di Venezia is an interesting option for return visitors or residents wanting some time at the beach or a change of scenery but doesn't have many touristic attractions per se.
