Danube Tower - by Management
Description
The Danube Tower (Donauturm) is Austria's tallest structure, reaching 252m in height. It was built in the centre of Donaupark, in the north of Vienna, to coincide with the Viennese International Horticultural Show held there in 1964. Ticket holders will be whisked to the outdoor panoramic viewing platform at 150m in 35 seconds and can also access the central floor at 165m. Trivia: unlike similar looking towers, it is not used for TV broadcasting
Access & Transport
The tower is in Donaupark, on the north bank of the Danube River, about 5km northeast of Vienna city centre. Kaisermühlen VIC (U4) and Alte Donau (U4) underground stations are both about 15mins' walk away. Car parks are available nearby
Instructions & Recommendations
Sunset is the ideal time for viewing so you can get daylight, the sun setting and night time (if you are patient) but it is also the most popular, i.e. crowded, time of the day.
Environmental & Social
No environmental data. Consumes energy (the lifts in particular)
Conclusion
Some good views await you from the top of Donauturm but you won't exactly be dominating the city which is a few kilometres away. Nice if you have spare time but, in our opinion, this is more an activity for residents than travellers looking to discover Vienna.
