Mumok, Vienna - by Management
Description
Mumok is an art museum in Vienna with a collection of modern and contemporary works from artists such as G. Richter, Warhol, Picasso and J. Beuys. The formal name is actually 'Museum moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien' and it is housed in a stone-clad building designed by Austrian architects Ortner & Ortner. The collections are divided between Classical Modernism, Vienna Actionism, Contemporary Art and the Hahn & Ludwig Collections.
Access & Transport
The museum is located in the Museumsquartier, just west of Maria-Theresien-Platz. Volkstheater (U3 and tram 49), Museumsquartier (U2), Ring/Volkstheater (1, 2, 71, D) and Schmerlingplatz (46) stations are all within a 3 mins' walk.
Instructions & Recommendations
The Leopold Museum is situated just across but is thematically slightly overlapping.
Environmental & Social
The building has Austria's Ecolabel, meaning it uses 100% green electricity, waste separation, energy saving bulbs and F&B sourcing is focused on regional and organic food. Helps spread the arts.
Conclusion
Not a priority for those with less than 3 days in Vienna, except for modern & contemporary art fans that is. If you have been around most other cultural activities then by all means this museum is worth discovering - just keep your expectations in check.
