Catedral de Santa Maria de Vitoria - by Antonio Lopez on Google
Description
The Cathedral of Santa María de Vitoria was built in the 13/14th centuries in Gothic style and was originally part of the city walls (unusually, it is also still embedded with other constructions). Its main feature is the richly decorated façade with three portals, the tower with its octagonal top with tiles, and the Chapel of Santiago. The parish offers several tour options that can include the visit of the tower and the walls. This review is for the 60mins guided tour of the Cathedral only (includes the underground crypt and access to the triforium)
Access & Transport
The cathedral is in the historical centre of the city, 1km north of the train station (15mins walk). Vitoria itself is 60km south of Bilbao, 100km west of Pamplona, and 120km northeast of Burgos. There are direct trains to Pamplona (65mins) and Burgos (85mins)
Instructions & Recommendations
The tours can be conducted in Spanish, Euskara (Basque), French and English. Advanced online booking is recommended to ensure availability
Environmental & Social
We deem this attraction environmentally neutral. Part of the city's architectural and artistic heritages.
Conclusion
The guided tour of the Cathedral is recommended for all adults (young and not so young) but should find the best reception for those with a keen interest in architecture (religious or not) given the unusual emphasis on the structural aspects of the building.
Key positive
Educational and engaging tour

Key negative
Limited decoration inside
Suitability
Accessible for wheelchair users (lifts) except for the triforium. No religious denomination restrictions
