Barbare Vineyards

Description

Barbare Vineyards was established in 2000 by a Turkish entrepreneur with a French education and network in the wine region of Chateau Neuf du Pape, including the oenologist in charge of the winemaking. The estate is located on a small hilltop overlooking the Marmara Sea, between the villages of Barbaros and Yazır, in the region of Thrace which has a centuries-old winemaking tradition. There are several grape varietals used such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir or Karaoğlan. Barbare also has a hotel and restaurant and can arrange tastings and events.

Access & Transport

Address: Yazır Köyü, Karaağaçlık Mevkii, Tekirdağ Instructions from property: do not enter Tekirdağ and stay on the E84 highway. 2km after you pass Ramada Hotel, you should take the exit after the OPET gas station, under the bridge and left at the roundabout until you see the Barbare signboard.

Instructions & Recommendations

We recommend calling the property before heading there to make sure they are open and book a tasting if that is what you have in mind. And don't drink and drive of course.

Meta review

The wines produced by the estate are often ranked among the best in the country by specialized wine critics and visitors mostly seem to enjoy their experience - either lunch or wine tasting, although there are a few that are critical about the management and service. The hotel is also popular for weekend breaks, including in the winter.

Environmental & Social

Environmentally neutral. Socially, the cultural aspect (discovery of the terroir and area) evens out the alcohol element.

Conclusion

The Barbare estate offers visitors nice countryside views near the sea of Marmara and the opportunity to discover some of the best wines in Thrace / Western Marmara, as part of a tasting or paired with a lunch (or dinner). It also makes for a good overnight stay for those on a regional road trip and heading to / from Gallipoli.
