Bodegas Fariña tour & wine tasting

32 Carretera Tordesillas, Toro, Castilla y León

Description

Bodegas Fariña is a winery located in Toro that specializes in growing the red Tinta de Toro and the white Malvasía varietals on its 300ha of vineyards. It is equipped with modern facilities and its top floor houses a museum dedicated to wine and art. The estate runs guided visits (in Spanish) of 90mins several times a week with the option to follow them with a tasting of 5 of their wines.

Access & Transport

The bodegas is 2km northeast from the centre of Toro, and 3km from the train station. There is parking space on site. Toro's closest city is Valladolid, 65km away on the A-62 then A-11 through Tordesillas or 1h by train. Salamanca is 1h drive away as well (70km) and the town of Zamora is 40km west (20mins by train)

Instructions & Recommendations

Note that minors under 18 years old can attend the Tour for free but are not allowed to drink wine. Advanced reservation is required; the contact is: pedidosonline@bodegasfarina.com

Meta review

Often listed among recommended bodegas in the Zamora province by travel and wine bloggers, the online reviews suggest a good experience overall with a friendly guide and plenty of info about the particular characteristics of winemaking in Toro. The wines are described as being fair value though there is, of course, a strong subjective aspect and plenty of fake reviews to navigate through so it is hard to be definitive about it.

Environmental & Social

Environmentally neutral. Socially the cultural aspect (discovery of the terroir and wine-making culture of the Zamora region) partially evens out the alcohol element.

Conclusion

The Bodegas Fariña is one of several good options with scheduled visits and tastings in Toro. Nothing out of the ordinary besides the wine and art museum but a good way to discover the D.O. Toro wines and their specificities.

Key positive

Run through the entire production facilities

Fairly priced

Key negative

Visits only in Spanish

No direct online booking

Suitability

Only adults will be able to taste wine. The visit is described as accessible for wheelchair users on some websites but we doubt that it is the case for the museum and can't confirm for the cellar area
