El Tubo de Zaragoza - by Jose Pineda on Google
Description
El Tubo is Zaragoza's most famous and traditional tapas bars area. It is centred around Calle de los Estébanes (from Calle Dom Jaime to Plaza de Sas Santiago) and is deemed to be bordered by the following streets: El Coso, Alfonso I, Don Jaime I and Mendéz Núñez. Besides the bars and restaurants, architectural highlights include Calle Mártires and the ruins of Old Puerta Cinegia (belonging to the 3rd century Roman Wall).
Access & Transport
The neighbourhood is immediately to the north of Plaza España tram stop, a short walk from the various touristic sights located on the city's historical district.
Instructions & Recommendations
The area is best experienced in the evenings and until quite late, when the dining and drinking venues are in full swing.
Environmental & Social
No green spaces but no (or limited) incremental carbon footprint from tourists. The injection of economic activity balances the negative impact of nightlife and increased commercialization on the community
Conclusion
Unless you have an aversion for narrow alleys coming alive at night and tapas bar, El Tubo is part of the Zaragoza experience and should feature on the itinerary of any traveller to the city.
Key positive
Lively nightlife
Choice of F&B venues
Key negative
Busy and noisy at night
Suitability
Best suited for adults (considering alcohol will be on the menu for many) but kids can join. No accessibility restrictions.
