Plaza del Pilar - by Silvia Miralles on Google
Description
The Plaza of Our Lady of the Pillar ('Plaza del Pilar') is at the centre of Zaragoza's most impressive architectural ensemble, framed by the Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar on its northern edge, La Seo del Salvador directly across the road on its eastern side, and the City Hall. In addition, it is embellished with the Fountain of Hispanicity (that draws the map of Latin America) and a monument to Goya. It is regularly used for public events and celebrations.
Access & Transport
The square is at the northern edge of the historical district of Zaragoza, close to the Ebre river. Many tourist highlights are within walking distance, the Plaza del Pilar-Murallas tram station is 1 min walk away and buses 101, 102 and 201 stop behind the Basilica on Paseo de Echegaray. There is parking available nearby (Indigo - Ayuntamiento).
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining a visit there with the Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar, the Goya Museum and/or the Caesaraugusta Forum Museum.
Environmental & Social
Mostly concrete/stone with no green spaces. Helps preserve the city's architectural heritage.

Easily one of Spain's most spectacular squares with plenty to admire - an essential stop on everyone's itinerary in Zaragoza. Take the time to sit down and learn about each building and monument.
